Michael graduated with a BA in English Literature from Cambridge University in 1991 and successfully completed an MA in Renaissance Literature at Liverpool University the following year. He also holds a postgraduate certificate in Sports Law from the University of London.
Following completion of academic legal training at the College of Law in Guildford in 1996 he qualified as a solicitor in 1999 and has worked in various city solicitors’ firms specialising in corporate, commercial, partnership and intellectual property law. Michael spent two years at Hempsons undertaking medical partnership and property work as well as advising on medical regulatory issues.
Prior to joining Lockharts, Michael worked for a firm of patent and trade mark attorneys and is part-qualified (by examination) as a Trade Mark Attorney. His recent successes in two finals level examinations (papers T3 and T4) set by the Joint Examination Board of the Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys and the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents underlines the breadth of services that Lockharts is able to offer its NHS and commercial clients, particularly in the field of trade marks, designs and copyright. Michael is an Affiliate Member of the Institute of Trade mark Attorneys.
He now specialises in the corporate and regulatory aspects of Practice-based commissioning, GP practice/pharmacy/veterinary acquisitions and disposals, commercial agreements for NHS consultants, partnership disputes and commercial and intellectual property advice within the NHS framework. Michael is also a Member of the Association of Partnership Practitioners.
Outside of work he enjoys playing tennis, cycling and working (under his wife’s supervision!) in his Wiltshire garden.
